Don acts for business owners, investors, and families throughout Aotearoa New Zealand on complex commercial, property, and succession matters. As a Director at BDM Lawyers, he brings extensive experience in business sales and acquisitions, franchising, commercial and industrial leasing, and property transactions spanning the commercial, industrial, and residential sectors. His approach is practical, strategic, and commercially focused, with a clear emphasis on protecting and enhancing long-term value.
He also serves as a trustee, director, and chair of commercial and charitable trusts and businesses, bringing governance-level insight to his legal advice. He advises on wills, family trusts, asset protection, succession planning, and estate administration, ensuring clients’ personal and business interests are structured and safeguarded across generations.
Don combines his broad general practice with a specialist focus in immigration law. He advises employers and employees on student, work, residence, investor, and business migration pathways, integrating immigration strategy with commercial structuring and long-term planning. He acts as general counsel to diplomatic missions in New Zealand and has done so for over a decade, reflecting the trust placed in him in advising on diplomatic mission matters. This breadth of experience enables him to deliver cohesive, end-to-end advice for clients pursuing cross-border opportunities, business and education pathways, or establishing their future in New Zealand.
Don is actively involved in the community and has been recognised as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International, reflecting the Rotary ideal of “Service Above Self”. He was also honoured with Life Membership of Victim Support New Zealand, demonstrating his long-standing and ongoing commitment to community service.
Outside of work, Don enjoys sport, cinema, music, the arts, travel, and spending time with his family.
